Planting the orchard

Our students went to the jungle in search of medicinal plants and foods for the orchard near the lodge.  These plants will later support the village with food and medicine.  It was really surprising to see how many kids did not know how to use a shovel. They realized how much work goes into supporting a family when you have to grow your own food.

CARNAVAL!

Our students were such great leaders during Carnaval.  They helped in braiding the tree of presents and in tying the presents to the tree.  They later danced around the tree as they took turns chopping it down.  Once the tree was down, the children in the village received a variety a gifts.

Shaman Ceremony

We were very fortunate to have two Shamans perform a ceremony to bless us in a good life, school, and future.

Invertebrates or other fauna observed during our trip.

This picture below is an io moth caterpillar.  It's spines sting and eventually it will turn into one of the most beautiful butterflies.
